JB's studio to be used for "Tonite show"(?)

Postby Alan » Thu Feb 19, 2009 11:32 am

Syndicated article (Bill Harris of Sunmedia) in my local paper today:

Conan O'Brien quoted about his using a different LA studio than Jay Leno currently occupies when he takes over The Tonight Show ;

"It was Jack Benny's studio, i think, in the early 60's. Later it was the original Knight rider studio. But i prefer to refer to it as the Jack Benny Studio."

Ed Sullivan "introduced" David Letterman's first CBS Late Show, as this was in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Wouldn't it be something if Jack Benny "introduced" Conan O'Brien's first Tonight Show, as this is in the Jack Benny Studio?

(Footage would come from the October 22 1963 Jack Benny Program, when Jack was giving a generous introduction to "...the new host of The Tonight Show...)

:D

I don't know to what extent Conan's "Tonight Show" studio was JB's, but a Benny intro ( to only 5th host?) would be wonderful Karma....even better, a nightly intro that acknowledges Jack, would imo be especially appropriate for Conan

Interesting history regarding broadcast date of "Jack Takes Boat To Hawaii".

That would be so cool to work in the same studio that Jack worked in. I don't care to watch Conan though. I think they should've retired The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson left. IMHO

I agree. Nothing against Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, or anyone who comes after, but it just hasn't been the same since 1992.

Sure it has. They all borrowed from Steve Allen :)
