Mel?

Ol' Mel don't care.
That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.

Benny Rubin (because I thought I recognized him in this picture) or Fred Allen (because of his famous bags under his eyes).

The second guess gets it ... who can forget of Jack's comments about those bags, they're about the only verbal blows he landed in the feud :)

Maybe if Jack's accompanist had kept that job, he'd have stayed out of trouble...

To me that looks more like Henny Youngman than Jack that Richard Nixon is accompanying.

You're right Max, Jack DOES look like Henny Youngman in that shot, didn't even occur to me. I'd almost agree with you if it wasn't a well-documented 1959 event - original caption:

Richard Nixon Playing Piano and Jack Benny Playing Violin
Original caption: Comedian Jack Benny, with his violin, teams up with Vice President Richard M.Nixon at the piano at the annual President's Black Tie Ball of the National Press Club here tonight. Nixon and other Government officials joined the club in honoring Benny for his distinguished service to music in America. Benny was presented the Laurel Leaf Award of the American Composers Alliance.

Couple of other angles:

Anyone have a guess at the artist who painted this one?

I'm sure about this one.. It's either Norman Krasna or Norman Rockwell.

Jack even looks a little like Youngman in the top picture. I'm reminded of the time I was on vacation and staying overnight in Grand Island Nebraska. A man was seated in my line of site who from up front was the spitting image of my dad...until he turned his head.

Not quite sure why the resemblance is there in those photos. I think Jack looks a little "puffy" in the face, maybe he was slightly ill, or maybe it's just being around Nixon!

Laura's got a shot of the two side by side in the photo gallery:

Should we start a "Benny or Henny" picture thread? :)

I think I have it from the first and last pictures, but the middle one is throwing me a little...
