Johnny Carson Interview from Rolling Stone, 1979

Postby David47Jens » Wed Jan 26, 2005 5:18 pm

An interesting bunch of comments from one of Johnny's few in-depth interviews. Jack Benny and Fred Allen are fondly referred to, as well as many of Johnny's predecessors and contemporaries. Worth a look! http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6862856?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single2&rnd=1106784689395&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.857

That's a heck of an interesting article about Johnny. I'm still reading it. Interesting that Johhny was so 'into' Jack that he knew the lines by heart from the Benny show in which Mary invents Rodney Dangerfield's name. Thanks for posting the article.

Thanks for the link to the interview. I always suspected the Rodney Dangerfield connection to Jack. I remember hearing the name on an episode where Jack and Rochester are addressing Christmas cards to all the big stars at the studios and one is to Rodney Dangerfield. Johnny in the interview mentions the big party Jack is having and Rodney is there early. As a coincidence, last night I was listening to an 11-29-46 show. Jack is taking Gladys Zybysko to a nightclub for an early New Year's Dinner. The MC announces that there is a big star in the club. Jack thinks it's him, but the MC introduces the big 'cowboy star, Rodney Dangerfield'. Rodney gets up and says a few words. He introduces his costar with him, Desert Paint, his horse; and hopes everyone will see his latest picture 'The Cactus Blooms at Midnight'. Classic Jack!
